Purple plaid dress, 1860

I love the Civil War, really do. It is strange for a french canadian, but it's one of my favorite topics. Since I grew up with Scarlett O'Hara in my head, I quickly got interested with the storyline and historical setting of Gone with the Wind

YES, I am planning on making every single dress that Scarlett had in the movie, lots of fabric is already waiting for me, so I get really passionate when something is relative to the costumes of the movie.

But since the civil war period interests me a lot, I wanted to make a dress that is more "everyday life" type. Something of my own design. I got a superb purple-ish plaid silk in Paris, so I went on and made the whole outfit. By the way, I am totally crazy about plaid! This dress is based on Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 1. 40% machine, 60% by hand.
